Maarten Heijnens (1996) is a maker of transdisciplinary work and also works as a performer for other artists. In 2019 he graduated from The Institute of Performative Arts in Maastricht with a BA degree in performance.

As a maker, he focuses on designing spaces to practice radical intimacy, reconsider our codes of conduct and/or to withdraw. He is interested in 'the space between you and the other' and how close we can get to each others (lived) reality. Or, in other words, he aims to create works that looks at the spectator, instead of the reverse. This results in performative installations that are situation-based and have a participatory character. In his work he refers to situations that we experience in everyday life  - such as 'an encounter'  - and places them under a magnifier in order to highlight a certain (overseen) poetic.

As a performer, he worked for, among others, Socìetas Raffaello Sanzio / Romeo Castellucci, Lara van Hoof, Opera Ballet Vlaanderen (in collaboration with The Airport Society) and Performance Collective URLAND.

His works have been co-produced by Veem House for Performance, STUK, Makershuis Tilburg and Via Zuid and were supported by Amsterdams Fonds voor de Kunst (AFK), deBuren (Grensverleggers), Janivo Stichting and Stichting Melanie.
