In this September ECD newsflash:

ECD2 started the year with a residency in Rennes and Paris organised in partnership with Centre Chorégraphique National de Bretagne - FAIRE. Students followed a movement research intensive with the choreographer Saïdo Lehlouh, took part in training sessions with the local hip-hop community and participated in the battle The One during the Millésime festival in which they reached the final. The residency culminated with the Festival de la Place for the re-opening of the Théâtre de la Ville in Paris. At the festival, ECD students performed in Lehlouh’s site-specific piece Apaches at Place de Châtelet in Paris alongside professional dancers and a group of amateurs.

In October ECD is hosting choreographer, teacher and researcher Thomas Presto who will teach a two week intensive on Talawa technique and Africana repertoire.

Critical somatics, a new ECD Research and education development project is kicking-off on September 14. This biannual project, designed by Bojana Bauer and Maria-Ines Villasmil Prieto opens the question of decoloniality in somatic practice and teaching. It consists of a work-group composed of ECD teachers and guests from other ATD departments - Health and Performance, SNDO, DAS - and two symposia planned for spring 2024 and 2025.
The project is supported by the ATD Educational Development fund and the Lectorate.

ECD is launching its Winter School « Sneak preview ». Open to dancers curious about ECD education, Sneak preview is composed of classes, workshops, lectures and jams providing an opportunity to learn from ECD teachers, practice with the current ECD students and see them perform.

Bojana Bauer, ECD director and Maria-Ines Villasmil Prieto, ECD core team member, are participating in an international seminar organised by UniArts Helsinki, celebrating 40 years of its dance department. As guest panelists they will engage in the discussion about parallel contemporaneities in dance history and present.
