About Myrthe Niens

Myrthe Niens, she/her, has recently become project leader of the AHK's Entrepreneurship project and the Academy of Theatre and Dance's Fair Practice project.

She graduated from Theatre & Education (HKU, 2009) and graduated from the Master of Arts Education (AHK, 2016). As a teacher in special needs education, accessibility & inclusion are central to her way of thinking. Myrthe conducted research for ‘Stichting 5D’ into creative access: theatre for people with a visual impairment. She has also developed art projects for special needs education and set up training programs for art teachers in primary schools in Amsterdam.

The importance of fair practice to me:

"My first acting coach told me: 'From now on you are a professional and you will no longer work for booktokens'. This is where the seed was planted for me to pursue an honest work practice in which we must take ourselves seriously as artists."
