Caroline Sayo Iura

Caroline Sayo Iura is an American dancer of Japanese origin, who danced with Dutch National Ballet for practically all of her career.

Caroline Sayo Iura started her ballet training in her hometown of Los Angeles with Irina Kosmovska. Afterwards, she was accepted into Washington Ballet, where she danced for a year before joining Dutch National Ballet. She joined the company in 1978 and quickly rose through the ranks, becoming a principal in 1986. Many choreographers created new roles especially for her and she also danced main roles in the work of George Balanchine and in the full-length classical ballets.

After she left the stage, in 2002, Iura became a ballet mistress and teacher. In this capacity, she has worked with Scapino Ballet Rotterdam, English National Ballet, the ballet company of Teatr Wilki in Warsaw and the Dutch National Ballet.
