Soraya Reichl is a performance maker, curator, performer, theater and political educator based in Berlin/Amsterdam. She works at the crossroads of independent and state theaters. For her, theater is a platform for political reflection and action. Her work dives into unresolved contradictions, systems of violence, distorted histories, politics of memory, forms of resistance that communicate with one another, autonomy, gaze, revolt and multiperspectivity—all deeply embedded within feminist discourse and pop culture.

She is known for her site-specific and site-responsive audio walk performances and public space interventions, including REMEMBER NOW! (co-produced by Sophiensaele in 2021 and 2022, Berlin) and WHAT THE HEX?! (co-produced by Sophiensaele in 2023, Berlin), which transformed public spaces into immersive narratives. She also creates projects with non-professional ensembles as seen in GESCHICHTEN ZWISCHEN UNS (Theater an der Parkaue in 2022, Berlin) and NIEDER MIT! (TheaterImpulse in 2023, Bielefeld). The latter selected for the 2024 Theatertreffen der Jugend at Haus der Berliner Festspiele.

As a performer, Soraya was part of STÖREN by Suna Gürler & Ensemble at Maxim Gorki Theater (2016–2023, Berlin), which was invited to Theatertreffen der Jugend 2017, Radikal Jung 2017, and the Swedish Biennale for Performing Arts 2019. She also performed in Grundgesetz – Ein chorischer Stresstest by Marta Górnicka and WIR AKZEPTIEREN EURE ENTSCHULDIGUNG NICHT by Regina José Galindo at Maxim Gorki Theater.

Between the 2021 and 2023 seasons, Soraya worked as a theater educator and curator at Theater an der Parkaue - Junges Staatstheater Berlin. In 2024, she was a fellow of the International Forum at Theatertreffen. Soraya’s art is rooted in a collective, embodied space of concern, care, curiosity and pleasure. She prioritizes fair working conditions and anti-discriminatory practices, which are central to both her art and her practice.

She frequently asks herself what other worlds might be possible—worlds that break free from the logic of our everyday reality. Concepts of doubt and hope are core to her thinking and to reimagining further possibilities. Soraya Reichl sees herself as a permeable theater maker, committed to creating art in times of ongoing crisis—art that disturbs, resists and amuses and at the same time tells good narratives about life in the bad.
