Soraya Lutangu Bonaventure

With performance, sound, and video work, Soraya Lutangu Bonaventure is attempting to materialize the fugitive points of friction existing between ecstasy and mourning, stillness and haunting, exhaustion and infinity. While seeking to reorient the junctures of both conceptual and embodied identity, her practice is preoccupied with the analysis of how representational systems and performative frameworks map into evolving forms of subjectivity. In addressing the degrees of legibility suspended in our gazes, the diasporic imaginary, and the complexities of representation, SLB builds expressive systems of repair that speculate on the poetic notions of singularity.
