Sam Scheuermann (1994, Tilburg NL) is a director, performer, photographer and urban practitioner, based in Amsterdam. In her work, she is drawn by the concept of ‘construction sites’: physical or social environments where images, spaces, ideas and relations take shape. Analyzing these processes of formation, she is exploring acts of reconstruction and reconfiguration. Inspired by the approaches of 3D live performing arts and 2D still photography, she observes observation and questions the act of framing. Embracing contradiction, she seeks to capture and stage the elusive, composing visual and physical performances and installations that aim to reclaim space for relationality, uncertainty, doubt, and multiplicity.
Sam received her bachelor degree as a theater director in 2017 at the Institute for Performative Arts Maastricht, and is currently studying at the master DAS Theatre in Amsterdam. She has researched, developed and presented her site-responsive work within the field of theater and visual arts, and worked community focused as a social designer in public space.
