Reiterations

Hanna Hegenscheidt will share three works, which she created or revisited during the MA program.

She investigated dramaturgical decisions  in some of her previous works, in particular through the close analysis of the duet, “Please caress here” (2010). This led her to further develop her techniques of distancing in human communication, working with the separation and reconfiguration of spoken word and body language.

These techniques  focus on the expressive forces of the body, and aroused her interest  to work with a film, the melodrama, “Imitation of Life” by Douglas Sirk, for the second year of her studies. Together with four performers she created the piece, “Don´t recognize me”, which premiered in Berlin in March 2014, and the video-work, “One-sentence-experiment”, based on parts of the spoken script and the physical “script” of the film.

Hanna´s interest is to zoom into bodily gesture, to make visible the bodies and their affective qualities as they communicate with other bodies. At this stage of her research, she explores an approach to narrative and dramaturgy based on the affective qualities of the body; an approach which is “not linear, but modular, narrating in component parts, which could result in a whole.”
