Rudi Laermans on contemporary dance: 'Moving Together’

On January 12th Rudi Laermans, professor at the University of Leuven and regular guest teacher at P.A.R.T.S. in Brussels, will be the guest at HALf6. He will talk about his new book Moving Together – Theorizing and Making Contemporary Dance (Valiz, 2015).

In Moving Together Rudi Laermans clarifies the multiple stakes of contemporary dance through a unique combination of dance studies and sociology. Detailed analyses of dance works by choreographers such as Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker and Meg Stuart inspire the book’s first, theoretically-oriented part. The second part of the book focuses on artistic collaboration and co-creation, based on extensive dialogues with dance makers from the thriving Brussels dance scene.

Roos van Berkel will interview Rudi Laermans about the relationship between dance, theory, and artistic co-creation. How does artistic collaboration result in a dance piece? And how can we ‘theorize’ contemporary dance?
