Learning from and in practice
During the first year, you actively explore what drives you as a maker and teacher. In the second year, there is space for projects that match your own ambition, in which you can develop further.
On Mondays and nine to ten weekends a year, you attend classes and workshops at the Academy of Theatre and Dance. You will also work six hours a week at practical workplaces. Under certain conditions, you can also use your own workplace as a practical workplace.
From your own work practice, you bring in cases that we discuss during the theory lessons. Coming from the lecture programme, you take inspiration and tools into practice. Based on the table-and-floor principle, you learn to work with children, young people, adults and special target groups. You also have lessons in interdisciplinary work and working on location.
The study programme works with a diverse group of theatre makers and teachers. These inspirational people bring their experience, expertise and network to the programme from their own practice.
- The spoken language of the study programme is Dutch.

Study load and exemptions
The total study load of the programme is 18-22 hours per week, including self-study and working at the practical workplaces at least 1 day per week. During the final work phase in the 2nd year, the study load is higher.
In addition to the two-year exemption, very occasionally additional exemptions are given. This can be based on previously acquired competences. Any exemptions lead to a more in-depth pathway, but never to study shortening.
Given the different backgrounds of the students, extension of the programme is sometimes a necessity.
Costs
Have you already completed an undergraduate degree, but not yet a teaching qualification? Then you will pay regular tuition fees. You may be eligible for a compensation.
If you hold a Bachelor's degree with a teaching qualification obtained after June 1991, you will pay the institutional tuition fee.
