Who is this study programme for?

Is a part-time theatre in Education studies programme something for you? Are you a professional actor, director, mime artist or performer  and would you like to learn how to work with untrained actors? The two-year Theatre in Education – Accelerated Programme will train you to become a theatre-maker in two years. In this two-year programme, you obtain your first degree (Bachelor of Education) and are qualified to teach in the highly diverse (educational) field of the theatre-maker. Based on your practical experience, you get a two-year exemption. You learn to make theatre with people from all (cultural) walks of life and all ages, both inside and outside of education.

Vision

In this part-time Theatre in Education studies programme, we educate independent theatre-makers-teachers whose aim is to inspire and move other people. In doing so, you work in constant dialogue with your environment while being active pedagogically, artistically, socially, professionally and entrepreneurially.

Theatre-makers-teachers focus specifically on the untrained performer. They address them as co-makers and together they develop the performance from the perfromer's individuality and capacities. The individuality and non-professionalism of the co-makers contribute to the final artistic quality of the whole.

In all this, it is essential that you know how to connect current topics with your own practice and passion for theatre. In doing so, you also develop your own perspective on theatre and art education. From that perspective, you take artistic initiative and navigate the vast landscape of professional practice. You do so both inside and outside the arts sector.

Artist and educator in one

Three pillars
Our training assumes that, as a theatre teacher, you can accomplish most pedagogically and artistically if you are able to feed the other with your own necessity, fascination and curiosity. This is why the curriculum devotes a lot of attention to developing your own artistry and teaching, plus the connection between the two.

During this part-time Theatre in Education training programme, we train you in a variety of theatre-making techniques. The focus is on learning to create from various sources and disciplines, such as material, light, sound, costume and space. And on various acting styles, such as text, physical theatre and movement.

Besides the artistic and the pedagogical, Creatorship is the third pillar of the programme. Within Creatership, you look at what your signature is as a maker-teacher and how you communicate that signature with practice. We also look at relevant developments and current developments in the field. We also look at how you can translate the work of a creative artist into practice in a way that matches who you are as a professional. Creativity is not a separate discipline within the programme, but is integrated into several programme components. In the second year, in the run-up to the final project, you receive coaching focused on Creatorship.
