1st year: the foundations of your craft
The first year lays the broad cultural and technical basis:
- You’ll study cultural history, theatre history, music history, dramaturgy, philosophy and more, as well as technical subjects including optics, mechanics and electronics.
- You’ll learn to understand the makers’ world: How does the creative process work? How do I work with people from other disciplines? You will work on a variety of productions with people from other study programmes at the Academy of Theatre and Dance.
- You’ll develop your imagination, technical knowledge and creativity. Short internships will expose you to professional practice.
2nd to 4th year: your personal specialization
The second year is when you delve deeper into your chosen specialisation: technical producer, lighting designer or sound designer. What you decide to do this year determines your course of study for the remainder of the programme, when you will focus on achieving your personal aims.
You will receive excellent training from outstanding teachers and guest lecturers, all of whom work as professionals at the heart of the international industry. This ensures the rapid integration of the latest developments into the curriculum. The technical advances in your field are happening at breakneck speed, in areas such as digital design, online and offline multimedia installations, and motion and light sensors. And our study programme leads the way, setting the trends. The internships you do as part of the programme, along with every other aspect of your training here, will transform you into a specialist professional.
