Fashion designer Pascale Gatzen (NL) in collaboration with Saskia van Drimmelen (NL) and Petya Koleva (BG)

The Block opened by taking part in two presentations of the Paris Fashion Week. In February 2005 the label Bless presented their winter collection 05/06 in the course of a lunch. Three seatings of press and buyers were invited for a meal. Participants of DasArts served the food dressed in the clothes of Bless. Later that same day the participants closed off the show of Bernhard Willhelm with a special performance. In order to experience the Paris Fashion Week from different perspectives in the same week we visited the shows of a number of more established fashion labels such as Vivienne Westwood and Dries van Noten as well as show rooms presenting young designers.

During the Block  a sewing atelier was set up in the building of DasArts. In the first few weeks we played with clothes. Saskia van Drimmelen found an approach with each of the participants to make clothes for themselves. Gradually contributions by participants and guests, each with their own specific background and potential, took over the shape of the block. Through shared experiences we came to learn more about what it means to be human among human beings and how these experiences can become productive in situations which will open the potential for people to interact and communicate in a more open and intuitive way.

Petya Koleva worked together with the researchers to give context to ideas surfacing in the block from a broad cultural perspective. We established connections with locations and events happening in Amsterdam.
