Application and selection

Application deadline academic year 2020-2021: 7 April 2020.

Admissions procedure

The first round is held in writing. Applicants are asked to send in the following documents:

  • A fully completed application form (form in Dutch).
  • Your CV. 
  • A reference letter.
  • A description of your professional work practice, what relevant previous professional experience you have, and what your current practice looks like.
  • A motivation why you wish to attend this study programme.
  • 3 project descriptions briefly explaining the nature of the project, the relevance of the project, your job description, and how this project has contributed to your professional development:
    • 1 project you worked on previously.
    • 1 project you are currently working on.
    • 1 project you would really like to realize and why.

Based on the documents listed above we iwill determine if you will be admitted into the second round.

The second round consists of a workshop/presentation day and an interview with the selection committee. Dates of the workshop day and interviews: tba.

Participants in the master’s programme:

  • have a BA from an HBO (University of Applied Science) or WO (University) programme relevant to the arts or cultural studies, or a study programme in business administration plus demonstrable affinity with and professional experience in the arts;
  • have at least two years’ professional experience in the arts;
  • are able to motivate their desire to become creative producers convincingly, showing sufficient ambition to make the connection between artists, audiences and entrepreneurship as producers;
  • have outspoken views on the field of the arts, are able to reflect critically and constructively on it and can put into words how they intend to contribute to it;
  • have the potential to become producers who are able to bring about innovative perspectives, and thus help shape the arts in innovative and sustainable ways.

FAQ

What previous education is required to attend the MA Creative Producing? Applicants need a bachelor’s degree from a University or University of Applied Science with an evident affinity with the arts. Alternatively, demonstrably relevant experience in the field plus a minimum of two year’s professional experience within the arts sector may be sufficient.

How many students are there in a class? Classes are small, averaging ten students.

What is the average age of students? Currently our students are aged 26 – 55.

From which disciplines do students come? Our students hail from all art disciplines, but also from other sectors that have crossovers with the arts, science, technology and social sciences.

How often do I need to be in class? Teaching days are five consecutive days a month Saturday – Wednesday. Always around the last weekend of the month.

What do current students ‘get’ from the MA Creative Producing? Students currently attending the MA Creative Producing express different motivations for participating. A few of these: needing more in-depth knowledge of business or artistic aspects, a new network, more creativity in my role as a producer, international context, developing new models, increasing skill set, more in-depth knowledge of the sector as a whole, extending expertise, reflection and peer learning, practical know-how, theory to underpin my views, personal coaching.

What subjects are taught? Subjects cover the following areas:

  • Art and entrepreneurship: business administration, entrepreneurship in the arts.
  • Art and the world: philosophy/ethics, sociology, internationalisation.
  • Art and the law: copyright, business law, labour law, contract law/liability law.
  • Art and management: management theory and peer support.

What teaching formats can I expect? Lectures by guests from the Netherlands and abroad, workshops, classes, group discussions, peer learning, presentations and personal coaching.

Who are the coaches that will be coaching me? We have coaches from all disciplines, for further info go to Core team, coaches and teachers.

Are classes held during office hours? The majority are, but during the five days students spend at school we sometimes teach at night.

How many hours of self study should I count on? In addition to the five days in school you should count on an average of three half days (12 hours) per week in self study. It is up to you how and when you plan these.

What is the language of instruction? The language of instruction is Dutch, teaching materials are in Dutch and English.

What is the language of the teaching materials? Dutch and English.

Will we be going abroad with our class? Yes we will. We ask all students to visit an international conference where they will also attend workshops. To this purpose we reserve a € 500 fee per student. In addition there will be one group excursion abroad (in Europe).

Can international students attend Creative Producing? Yes they can. The language of instruction is Dutch. International students may attend if they are sufficiently proficient in Dutch, both in writing and reading. They may speak and write in English.

To what extent is Creative Producing internationally oriented? We offer a class in Internationalisation plus personal coaching on internationalisation. We reach out to peers abroad and there will be a group excursion to another country in Europe.

What is the tuition fee? If this is your first MA course and you are a Dutch or EU student, the standard legal tuition fee applies: EUR 2,143. For Dutch students taking a second MA and for non-EU students the institutional tuition fee applies: EUR 5,200.
