DAS Theatre: Tutor

Lara Staal is curator, theatermaker, onderzoeker en schrijver. Haar werk gaat over hoe theater een platform kan bieden voor politieke reflectie en mobilisatie en allianties kan sluiten tussen verschillende domeinen. Sinds 2017 werkt ze als freelance curator & maker in de podiumkunsten en ontwikkelde projecten als "De avond van de Woede" (samen met rapper Gideon Everduim) en "Europe on Trial" (samen met mensenrechtenactivist Yoonis Osman Nuur).

Sinds 2018 werkt ze bij NTGent samen met journalisten, politici, academici en kunstenaars aan een serie over waarheid, geloof, schoonheid, rechtvaardigheid en trots. In februari 2020 organiseerde ze bij Münchner Kammerspiele de “Shadow Munich Security Conference”, in reactie op de huidige Munich Security Conference; een counter-conference die een groep progressieve stemmen uitnodigde om veiligheid en veiligheidsbeleid te herdefiniëren. In november 2021 is ‘Dissident’ in première gaan; een theatercollege waarin jongeren die bekend staan als ‘probleemgeval’, het publiek onderwijzen over zaken als discipline, regels en succes. Naast haar werk als curator en maker schrijft ze met enige regelmaat over theater en politiek voor verschillende magazines en publicaties. 

Lara Staal is a curator, theatre maker, researcher and writer. Her work considers how theatre can provide a platform for political reflection and mobilisation, and forging alliances between different domains. Since 2017 she has worked as a freelance curator & maker in the performing arts, developing projects such as "De avond van de Woede" (together with rapper Gideon Everduim) and "Europe on Trial" (together with human rights activist Yoonis Osman Nuur).

Since 2018, she has been working at NTGent with journalists, politicians, academics and artists on a series about truth, faith, beauty, justice and pride. In February 2020, she organised the 'Shadow Munich Security Conference' at Münchner Kammerspiele, a counter-conference that invited a group of progressive voices to redefine security and security policy, in response to the current Munich Security Conference. In November 2021, 'Dissident' premiered; a theatre lecture in which young people known as 'troublemakers' teach the audience about what’s wrong with today’s educational system. Besides her work as a curator and maker, she regularly writes about theatre and politics for various magazines and publications.
