Accessibility at the ATD (Jodenbreestraat)
This web page is still under construction. We will complete the information as soon as possible. If something is not listed on this page, please ask at the reception desk on the Ground Floor next to the main entrance. We are also working on making the building more and more accessible for everyone.
Language
For the activity or event you are going to visit, the activity or event page will tell you what language is spoken.
Lifts and wheelchair accessibility
There are two lifts, a North Lift (after the entrance on the left) and a South Lift (after the entrance straight ahead, through the righthand doors and then on the right).
The North lift goes to floors Ground Floor, 2, 4, 6 and 8; the South lift to Ground Floor, 1, 3, 4, 5, 7 and 8. The library can be reached via the South lift on the 3rd floor. The Dance theatre via the North Lift on the 2nd floor. The canteen can be reached via the North Lift on the 6th floor.
The property has multiple swing doors. The studios on the 2nd, 4th and 6th are accessible by lift north via a route where the swing doors are normally open. The Dance theatre and theory rooms on the 1st, 5th and 7th floors can only be reached by a route where the swing doors are closed by default and so have to be pushed open.
On the Ground Floor, viewed from the central entrance, there is a door on the left side that opens automatically. Through that side you reach the sound studios, ATT, stage scenery workshop and Theatre hall. You open this door with your AHK pass or someone from the reception can open it for you.
On the 4th and 8th floors there are doors that open automatically. You can get there with both lifts in the building. The doors open automatically when you give them a strong push. For staff, teachers and students of the ATD with physical support needs, a remote control is available on request to open these doors. This can be requested at reception. Ask for Niki Lemmens (facilities manager) there.
The roof terrace on the 8th floor is wheelchair accessible via a ramp. However, the sliding door towards the roof terrace is sometimes only slightly open. This sliding door is heavy to open.
Toilets
On each floor, you will find toilets in several locations. On the Ground Floor, you will find them only in the central hall, upon entering in the middle of the back wall. All toilets are gender-neutral. The door indicates whether there is a urinal or a toilet.
In the building, there are two toilets that have brackets on both sides, a sink at height for wheelchair users and an alarm cord.
One of these toilets can be found on the ground floor in the central hall, upon entering in the middle of the back wall.
The second is on the 8th floor, with the south lift it is straight ahead and the first door on the left after two folding doors. This toilet also has a shower with a chair and a grab bar on both sides.
All bathrooms are gender-neutral.
The teachers‘ changing room on the 5th floor is for men, the one on the 3rd is for women and those on the 4th and 7th floors are gender-neutral.
There is no separate room for changing young children.
Sound
If loud noise is played during a performance, this will be mentioned in advance on location. Earplugs are often available in such cases. Bring them yourself to be sure.
Unfortunately, there is no hearing loop for people that are hearing impaired.
Flashing lights
When flashing lights are present in a performance, this will be announced in advance (both on the website and on location).
Low-stimulus, prayer and meditation room
There is a low-stimulus, prayer and meditation room. It is located on the 4th floor. You can pick up the key at the reception desk.
In addition, this room can also be used for breast pumping. There is no refrigerator available. For employees, there are often refrigerators on their department where breast milk can be placed. If this is not possible on your department, you can ask at the reception for space in a fridge.
