Performed by Jordan Demetrius Lloyd and Harvey Burke-Hamilton, this study is an arrangement of vignettes exploring gesture as a way to contemplate culture, otherness, and (mis)communication. A dream. A lone figure. Social codes dressed and undressed. Seen and unseen. The two work through a movement vocabulary that is refined using formal tools such as shape, tone, and texture, which become one layer of the poetics that emerges from the work. The focus is then on how these formal elements make available the intimate act of seeing, and reveal the complexities of constructing meaning through movement, sound, and relationship. This work is in its early stages, and will take on a variety of different organizations throughout the coming year.
