‘Last Line’ was first choreographed by Jason Mabana for UCj (JMD) in 2018. It came together through a series of tasks he gave to the students which were mainly based around the question:  What makes us sad ? After developing different motifs and configurations in ‘solos, duet, group work’, he felt like the group had a lot to offer and decided to keep the 10 dancers dancing in a line. Through this idea of a line, choreographer and students created different patterns, and sticked mainly to one that really gave him a sense of time, rush, and fragility.

Jason Mabana is a London based choreographer from Belgium. He trained at the Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance in London and has been working with Akram Khan Company, Wayne McGregor, Shobana Jeyasingh and Candoco Dance Company. He created works such as Requiem for Aleppo which helped raise more than 100.000 pounds for Syrian refugees and has been selected as one of the best 10 UK young artists. He recently created work for Black Box Dance Company, BalletBoyz, Stella McCartney, Rambert School, Balettakademien,  and will choreograph this summer at Springboard Festival in Montreal, Canada and Conny Janssen Danst, Rotterdam. Jason is also the artistic director of Jason Mabana Dance making works for his own company. As well as choreographing , Jason is passionate by teaching, and teaches at the Royal Ballet School in London.
