About Nita Liem
Nita Liem is a leading dance and theatre maker and a lecturer in the Dance in Education (DD) and Theatre in Education programmes at the Academy of Theatre and Dance (ATD). She has recently been awarded the ATD Teacher-Researcher Fellow for 2024-2025, alongside Bart Deuss, for their joint project Living Archive: Making Dance Theatre with Communities. 20 Years of Don’t Hit Mama. This project builds on their years of practice-based research conducted through their dance company Don’t Hit Mama. They explore how social dance forms, such as hip-hop, can transform dance and theatre practice, and how art can meaningfully contribute to strengthening communities.
