Alex Klaasen's song Gewoon Opnieuw has been awarded the Annie M.G. Schmidt Prize for the best Dutch-language, original theatre song of the previous theater season. The song is from the theater programme Showponies II.

The prize was awarded to Alex Klaasen, lyricist Jurrian van Dongen and composer Peter van de Witte. Alex Klaasen, Jurrian van Dongen and Peter van de Witte are all three former students of the Amsterdamse Toneelschool & Kleinkunstacademie (ATKA). They receive a bronze bust from Annie M.G. Schmidt, made by Frank Rosen, and 3,500 euros. Last year Klaasen received a nomination for the song Why people sing, from Showponies I.

The jury says about the winning song: "This year's Annie MG Schmidt Prize goes to a song whose lyrics offer some hope. Musically at a high level, a beautifully composed melody; the performer is the best singer of all anyway."
