One of DAS Graduate School’s ongoing ambitions is to explore research opportunities for performing artists on the PhD level or its equivalent.
There currently are very few programmes in Europe that specifically cater to the expanded fields of theatre, choreography and performance. And even fewer providing pedagogies and facilities that focus on research in and through (collaborative studio) practice and on rigorous peer learning. Therefore, after two successful years with a first group of participants in THIRD, we are pleased to be able to develop our pilot into a sustainable support structure and have selected a second cohort that starts in July 2018.
The aim of THIRD is to deliberately bridge the gap between Master’s and 3rd Cycle education and to prepare, coach and facilitate individual choreographers, theatremakers and performance artists in articulating a long-term research project for enrolment in a practice-led PhD or Research Fellowship programme in the Netherlands or abroad. The new THIRD participants are Gustavo Ciríaco, Michael O'Connor, Rosie Heinrich, Alison Isadora, Jennifer Lacey, Nienke Scholts and Siegmar Zacharias.
Partner of ARIAS
We are also happy to announce that DAS Graduate School has become an active partner of ARIAS, a newly-founded regional platform. Initiated by the Amsterdam University of the Arts (AHK), Gerrit Rietveld Academy, Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (HvA), University of Amsterdam (UvA) and Vrije Universiteit (VU), ARIAS’s main goal is to enable intersections, encounters and collaborations between artistic research and research in the humanities, social sciences and the natural sciences. But also to increase visibility and funding opportunities, to reach diverse audiences, and to strengthen post-master trajectories for research in, with and through the arts.
All researchers affiliated with DAS Graduate School through THIRD and other DAS Research programmes can make use of ARIAS’s resources and participate in one of its research clusters: The City as a Site for Research, Research & Health, Art, Research & Education.
