The Danish Sigrid Stigsdatter Mathiassen who graduated in 2017 from the SNDO - School for New Dance Development has been selected to take part in the Moving Forward Trajectory. Under the guidance of five dance companies, Sigrid will be given a year to develop her skills and become acquainted with the Dutch dance world.

Each year five dance companies – Dansmakers Amsterdam, Dansgroep Amsterdam, Dansateliers, Dansbrabant, Random Collision and Generale Oost in collaboration with Dansgroep Amsterdam (the former ensemble of Krisztina de Châtel) select a number of talented, recently graduated choreographers. Those chosen this year were Ellis van Veldhuizen, Andrea Zavala Folache, also a student of the SNDO who graduated in 2017 and Sigrid Stigsdatter Mathiassen. They completed a two- week residence on location at Dansmakers Amsterdam.  Under the guidance of Liat Waysbort, the participants deepened and refined their way of working and creative process. Last weekend, after their residence, the aspiring choreographers resumed work on their own graduate productions. Sigrid Stigsdatter Mathiassen was selected for a follow-up trajectory with the different dance ensembles.

The Moving Forward Young Dance Makers Award underwent a makeover after the 2015 ITs Festival jury refused to award the prize. Instead of a financial reward, a trajectory was introduced which allows a choreographer to develop a new work with the support of a number of dance ensembles that is staged subsequently during the Moving Futures Festival tour.

This trajectory has now functioned successfully for three years. Last year choreographer Jija Sohn, a 2015 SNDO graduate, captivated audiences with her production, Geisha’s Miracle.
