From 29 October through 3 November, 2013, the Masters course at DasArts and Theater Frascati offers a group of young theatre makers the opportunity to work with the director Vivi Tellas. During the session the participants will work with one or more members of their own family on a short presentation. This will take place on Sunday, 3 November, in Frascati.

Tellas is an Argentine theater director and curator with a focus on ‘unintentional theater’. She finds theatricality outside the theater: on the street, in the family and in shopping malls. In ‘Family Theatre’ the ‘great theatrical themes’ in a family's history, such as love, death, secrets, disappointments and frustration, will be investigated by a group of young Dutch theatre makers and their family members. Is the family the first theater where we perform? Do family members conduct themselves the same way inside and outside the family? Is that acting? Why do different family members have different versions of events?

Presentation in the fall semester at DasArts

For the fall semester Vivi Tellas is also a guest instructor at Dasarts. During the block the Argentine theatre maker is giving the workshop ‘Found theatre and the urban ready-made’. She defines an 'urban ready-made' as existing things (persons, events and places) that become theatrical by being looked at in a certain manner and and by framing them in a specific way. On 22 October, 2013, the students will present a number of short works that were created while attending her workshop.

DasArts and Frascati

The workshop is a collaboration between DasArts and Theater and Production House Frascati, which has a tradition of what are called the “Frascati Sessions”. These are workshops for young professional artists. Practised, often international theatermakers share their experience during short work periods. The sessions are not only an opportunity to become acquainted with a specific practice and vision of theater and art, but are also meeting places for fellow makers with diverse backgrounds.

Practical info and registration

  • The workshop takes place from 29 October through 3 November in Frascati (Amsterdam) and will be wrapped up with a closing presentation on Sunday, 3 November.
