11:00-17:00 workshop Mapping Places & Traces I: Exploring Amsterdam Through Its Historical Traces 
During this day we will provide lunch. And at the end of the afternoon soup to close the day.

Join us for the workshop Mapping Places & Traces I — a (two-step*) exploration of Amsterdam that invites you to see the city not just as a visitor, but as a curious researcher, active observer, and engaged maker.

Working in small groups, you’ll explore the area around the Academy of Theatre and Dance, delving into the layered cultural histories of the city. As you walk its streets, you’ll document what you encounter — from the clearly visible to the invisible traces of the communities that have shaped these spaces over time. For this workshop you will be using on your mobile phone a mapping tool specifically designed for this day. 

Each group will be assigned an area to investigate, mapping stories, traces, rituals, memories, etc. through sound, image, video, and field notes. No prior research is needed — just curiosity, openness, and a willingness to engage with the city. Slow down, look closer, and let Amsterdam reveal its stories to you.

Bring with you: a fully charged mobile phone (with location services enabled for your internet browser — this will save time before we start), a charger, a power bank (if you have one), a notebook and pencil, walking gear, and—above all—a big dose of curiosity. Lunch will be provided for but it’s advisable to bring a water bottle with you.
