Contest

The awarding of a prize for the best performance and the associated urge to perform is of all times. As early as 500 BC, drama competitions were held in Greece. All male authors could participate and the three best comedies and tragedies were selected by the Greek government. These were performed in March and April during the six-day Dionysos Festival in Athens. Many of the winners are still known today and can be found in our collections, such as Aeschylus, Aristophanes, Euripides and Sophocles. In those days, women were excluded from both the writing contest and the performance.

Nowadays, luckily, this has changed and everyone is allowed to participate in the library's competition.

What can you win? A Dutch graphic novel about the female philosopher Hipparchia or an English-language book about female characters in mythology.
What do you have to do? Drop by the library during the month of April and put your name and preferred prize in the vase. At the end of April we will announce the winners!
