Annemarie Hulst-Waal
Annemarie Hulst-Waal is community manager Living Labs at the Center of Expertise Urban Vitality and since 2023 impact developer (program manager increasing impact with partners in the city) at the Faculty of Health at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences. Through the Living Labs, she works on the effect of research on the practice and innovation of higher vocational education. As an educationalist, she is involved in various projects that aim to increase the capacity and quality of education in the Living Labs.
As a lab director, Annemarie is affiliated with the Training for Excellence Living Labs, which focus on optimizing healthy performance within the performance domains, from (top) sport to (top) healthcare. New services and products for monitoring and influencing performance are developed in co-creation and tested in various contexts such as sports, dance, music and dentistry. It is about optimizing performance to the desired individual level, taking into account health risks and often having to perform under high pressure. There is collaboration with institutes that train athletes/performers, so that they can learn from the expertise available and new insights from research can be embedded in their organization. In this way, a sustainable contribution is made to influencing the health and performance of young performers. Lecturers, researchers, students and professionals from different sectors work together in a transdisciplinary manner within the Labs. And cross-pollination can also take place between the different Labs.
Annemarie also works as a lecturer-researcher and educational developer at the Master of Science in Performance, Sport & Health. This is where she trains new therapists and trainers to guide athletes and performers in optimizing healthy performance. Here she can use her extensive experience as a Mensendieck Exercise therapist, physiotherapist and hand therapist specialized in guiding musicians and other artists with health problems and performance goals. Annemarie worked for 12 years with musicians at the highest level at Nolet physiotherapists, affiliated with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.
