HALf6 Q&A with hip hop historian Daddy-O

HALf6 20 September 17:30 in IDlab
Special guest: professor Daddy -O | The hip hop historian

Time: Friday 20 September 17:30-19:00
Location: IDlab, 5th floor Academy of Theatre and Dance

Hip hop historian, music technologist and founder of the original socially conscious band Stetsasonic, Daddy-O is a living hip hop legend who’s considered one of the most influential voices in digital media.

Daddy-O has conquered the music industry not only as an artist but as a producer and mogul who helped launch industry heavy weights such as Mary J. Blige, The Notorious B.I.G, Junior Mafia, Red Hot Chily Peppers, Queen Latifah, Mc Lyte, Sonic Youth and many others.

In the capacity of music industry executive he was responsible for signing some of the names that helped shape hip hop music and culture. He was the architect and activist who established the 'Self Destruction' anti violence movement in hip hop. Daddy-O and his band Stetsasonic were also some of the loudest voices opposing the apartheid regime in South Africa. Despite having an abundant history behind him, Daddy-O is always actively pushing the culture forward, both in word and deed. It’s this spirit that brings him to the Academy of Theatre and Dance.
