Soraya Reichl is a performance maker, curator, performer, theater and political educator based in Berlin and Amsterdam. Working at the crossroads of independent and state theatre, she understands theatre as a platform for political reflection and collective action.

Recurring themes in her work include the histories of warfare, memory and revolt, as well as the politics of institutional violence and the body as a site where power is felt, internalized, and resisted in everyday life. She is particularly drawn to zones where pleasure meets danger—where the body vibrates with both risk and possibility.

Soraya is known for her site-specific audio walk performances and interventions in public space. Her works include REMEMBER NOW! (co-produced by Sophiensaele in 2021 and 2022, Berlin) and WHAT THE HEX?! (co-produced by Sophiensaele in 2023, Berlin), both of which transformed public spaces into immersive narrative experiences. She also develops projects with youth ensembles as seen in GESCHICHTEN ZWISCHEN UNS (Theater an der Parkaue in 2022, Berlin) and NIEDER MIT! (TheaterImpulse in 2023, Bielefeld). The latter selected for the 2024 Theatertreffen der Jugend at Haus der Berliner Festspiele.

As a performer, Soraya was part of STÖREN by Suna Gürler & Ensemble at Maxim Gorki Theater (2016–2023, Berlin), which was invited to Theatertreffen der Jugend 2017, Radikal Jung 2017, and the Swedish Biennale for Performing Arts 2019. She has also performed in Grundgesetz – Ein chorischer Stresstest by Marta Górnicka and WIR AKZEPTIEREN EURE ENTSCHULDIGUNG NICHT by Regina José Galindo, both at Maxim Gorki Theater.

Between the 2021 and 2023 seasons, Soraya worked as a theater educator and curator at Theater an der Parkaue - Junges Staatstheater Berlin. In 2024, she was a fellow of the International Forum at Theatertreffen.

Soraya is committed to making art in times of ongoing crisis—art that disturbs, resists and amuses. She is interested in how theatre can suspend our usual sense of time, disrupt linear narratives, and open up alternative modes of perception. Her artistic practice is rooted in collective spaces of care, concern and pleasure. Any space that invites us to relate, create trouble and wrestle with the world together, is where she wants to be.
