From Tina To Tamara

(2014)

From TINA to TAMARA collects a selection of conversations about art and society between artists, thinkers, teachers, journalists and politicians, which took place during Radio Futura. The book is published by DAS Research, De Theaterschool and Het Transitiebureau.

In September 2014, Frascati Theater, the Nederlands Theatre Festival, "De Theaterchool" and "Transitiebureau" created the time and space to produce Radio Futura in three weeks. After thirteen radio broadcasts full of conversation, discussion and meeting, this temporary community collected a wealth of material. The material is made available in this book so other places and other people have the ability to make use of it. These are words and thoughts from which we derive courage, hope and decisiveness: from TINA to TAMARA; from "There Is No Alternative" to "There Are Many And Real Alternatives".

A selection of six different radio broadcasts has been chosen for the book, which have been listened to and transcribed. The book's discussions navigate along a number of central concepts: power, democracy, activism, ethics, education and utopia. In addition to the conversations, you will find a large number of quotes from philosophers, artists, scientists and policymakers describing the relationship between art, politics and society. These are part of installation #1 of the Art & Society collection. Finally, the book contains so-called Thorbecke lectures. These lectures are about the ideas of the political scientist Benjamin Barber and the philosophers Chantal Mouffe and Achille Mbembe. With the ideas of Barber, Mouffe and Mbembe, the Thorbecke lectures aim to make concrete proposals about the relationship between politics and art, which could subsequently be translated into a different cultural policy.

To unlock everything that has been written and said for eternity, Frascati Theatre has created an online magazine. The Radio Futura Online Magazine can be visited at www.radiofutura.nl. The 13 radio broadcasts are divided into small fragments, each with its own subject, making it easy to find. In addition, the magazine is full of background information, quotes and photos.
