Trans Performativity with Dodi Leal

January 13 (15:00-17:00) / January 14 (11:00-17:00)
At the ATD (Jodenbreestraat 3)
Contributors: Dodi Leal (she/her) and Alex Blum (they/them)

Join us for a talk, film screening and workshop with visiting artist and researcher, Dodi Leal, a travesti performer, curator, researcher and the first trans professor to research in Bahia, Brazil. Dodi has authored many texts on transness, travestis and performance, including Performatividade transgênera (“Transgender Performativity”) and Teatra da Oprimida (“Theatre of the Oppressed”, which is a wordplay on Augusto Boal’s Teatro do Oprimido: the title is in feminine, meaning: it is written from a transfeminist perspective). The focus of the workshop on January 14 will be Dodi's book Luzvesti, which explores how theatre light contributes to gendered surfaces and textures on stage. Dodi Leal is hosted by SNDO student Alex Blum following their stage research in Brazil.
