Laura Cull Ó Maoilearca received her PhD in Drama from the University of Exeter and is currently director of the Center for Performance Philosophy, part of the Guildford School of Acting, at the University of Surrey in Great Britain. She has published several books and articles on Performance Philosophy and is an expert on the work of philosophers such as Gilles Deleuze, François Laruelle and Alain Badiou. She has earned her stripes as a leading researcher in theatre sciences both in Great Britain and internationally.

Marjo van Schaik, director a.i. of the Academy of Theatre and Dance, about her appointment: “As a passionate scientist and researcher, Laura Cull Ó Maoilearca is a huge asset to DAS Graduate School. Thanks to her experience in the field of theatre science and art philosophy, she is able to give directions to our research program and further develop our master's space. Laura has also worked as a visual artist and knows art practice as a maker. DAS Graduate School is in good hands with her! The Academy of Theatre and Dance is delighted with her appointment.”

Laura Cull Ó Maoilearca reacts: “I’m honoured and excited to be joining the Academy. It’s a genuinely inspiring place - in terms of the practitioners it nurtures and the values it enacts. Whilst I’ve got big shoes to fill, I look forward to working with colleagues to sustain and develop the life of the school as an environment where creative practice and innovative research can thrive”.
