National Ballet Academy bachelor

The completion of the course for ballet dancers takes place during the abridged hbo phase of the Nationale Balletacademie. After completing the preliminary training and passing the havo or vwo final exam, dance techniques are perfected within the space of two or three years and students will gain their first professional experience during a practical internship with one of the major dance ensembles in Holland or abroad.

The practical study programme also has a theoretical component with subjects like dance history, musical theory, anatomy and injury prevention.

Hbo students have a considerable share in the annual school performances and sometimes participate in professional tours. Together with 17 other  international top educations in 2013 our students took part in the ‘Assemblée Internationale 2013’ in Toronto, Canada. For this special event Ted Brandsen and Michael Schumacher both created a new work for our students.

Michael Schumachers Stream was exceptional because of the use of new technology: during a ‘live streaming event’ our students in Toronto danced simultaneously with the dancers in Amsterdam. Ted Brandsen created the choreography Verge especially for four dancers from the National Ballet Academy. In the season 2013-2014 these four dancers received a contract  for the new Junior Company of the Dutch National Ballet.
