PERFORMANCES
ECD 1 students have ended the previous academic semester with their New Work choreographed by Cristina Planas Leitão in the theatre hall of the Academy of Theatre and Dance.
Next to this, ECD 3 students have shown their duets choreographed by themselves. They oversaw the whole process; from creation to production to PR. The photos from the duets will follow in the next issue of the newsletter!
ALUMNI
ECD alumni Pedro Afonso Machado presented his solo work at the ZID theatre during FATE#4.
About FATE
Since 2020, ZID has been consciously investing in talent development programs for young makers and talents with a refugee past and newcomers through the FATE project, which yields successful results. The training program offers them the opportunity to grow in the Dutch arts and culture sector. Participants are guided in this by various professionals within the performing arts. ZID also gives them the opportunity to create and present a performance.
Participants
FATE #4 consists of a group of inspiring makers who will present themselves to the outside world in December 2024 with a series of unique, self-made solo performances. We would like to introduce them:

Pedro Afonso Machado – MUST SWEAT
How do you prove you’ve worked? How do you measure effort? How do you earn your pay?
Pedro Machado invites you to a dance-theatre performance that explores the grotesque reality of those who are driven to exhaustion and find ecstasy in the aphrodisiac of sweat.
Must go in the studio. Must produce. Must be exhausted. MUST SWEAT.
About Pedro Afonso Machado
Pedro Afonso Machado is a Portuguese multidisciplinary performance artist based in the Netherlands. His work is strongly influenced by queer and anarchist theory, reimagined through the lens of grotesque imagery and the concept of the grotesque body as a shared human experience. Using satire as a tool, Pedro challenges social injustice and strives for inner revolution in the viewer, combined with compassion and gentleness. Since 2022, he has created multidisciplinary performances, such as Is it wrong not to be special? and On a stone staircase my eyes were healed.
“In the future I dream of creating my own line of multidisciplinary work where dance and writing come together in video and theatre.
Discipline: Dance/Theater/Poetry
