Two options
To accommodate as many candidates as possible, we offer two options for the pre-selection round. You have the option to audition live in Amsterdam or audition by video (your choice may be determined by your financial capacity, access to transport, etc).

OPTION 1
VIDEO PRE-SELECTION
Two videos of required technical phrases (see links below) and one video of a free solo.

You will be asked to learn and reproduce two dance phrases on video, in the same way as you would reproduce a dance phrase given by a teacher in a dance class.
For the solo, you have one (1) minute to show us anything that you feel represents you and your dancing.

OPTION 2
LIVE PRE-SELECTION

In our studios at the Academy of Theatre and Dance in Amsterdam you will take part in:

- presentation of the two phrases
- presentations of free solos

Please note: for the live pre-selection you prepare the same assignments as the candidates of option 1. This means that you should know the phrases by heart when you arrive to the audition; we will not teach them on the audition day. 

120 applicants (approx.) will be selected to take part in SELECTION ROUND 1.

Day 1: Creative process with a choreographer
Day 2: Technical dance classes 

The creative process on Day 1 and the classes on Day 2 will be led by teachers from the Expanded Contemporary Dance programme and guest artists.

This phase takes two full days. The selection is made at the end of Day 2. Approximately 50 candidates will be invited to take part in the second and final selection round.

Final jury deliberation takes place at the end of the second round. The results will be announced in person to the candidates the same evening.

The final results are announced live in the evening of 4 April 2026. Within two weeks after selection round 2 you will receive an email informing you of whether you have been selected as one of the 24 students to enter the first year of Expanded Contemporay Dance. If you are accepted into our program you will have a mandatory physical screening on 5 April 2025. Please keep this in mind while planning your trip. Make sure you do not plan a trip back before 6 PM.

Once you have completed the form, click on ‘Submit’ to submit your application. 
After submitting your application, you will receive an automatic email confirmation.   

Reminder: please make sure that you arrive on the audition day with the Required technical phrases learned by heart and fully rehearsed. We will not be teaching the phrases during the audition. To find instructions about the phrases see ALL APLICANTS section. 

Approximately one (1) week before 1 April 2026 you will receive detailed information about the LIVE audition in Amsterdam. Please ensure you have made all your travel arrangements in advance, taking all audition dates into consideration. If you’re accepted into our education please know that you need to have a mandatory physical screening on Sunday 5 April 2026. This will take the whole day so please plan your trip back after 6 PM.

The LIVE PRE-SELECTION round on 31 March 2026 and the FIRST SELECTION ROUND on 1 April 2026 start early in the morning. Please note that the 4 April 2025 (SECOND SELECTION ROUND) will be a full day – be sure to bear this in mind when planning your trip. 

Besides filling out the application form, you’ll need to upload video links.

Please learn and rehearse the Required technical phrases (see ALL APPLICANTS section) 

Make a video recording of your rendition of the phrases. (Please make two separate video recordings, one of each phrase.) 

Make a video recording of your free solo. 

You will submit 3 videos in total.

Upload your three (3) videos. 

Please upload your pre-selection videos to a video hosting website such as YouTube or Vimeo, then share the link with us via the online application form. You can secure your link with a password if you prefer. Password must be included in the application form. 

DO NOT send links to online drives (Apple, Google, OneDrive, Dropbox, etc.) or file transfer ser-vices (WeTransfer, etc). Videos linked to in this way will not be watched. 

DO NOT send video files. We cannot download files. 

Before sending your link, please check if it meets the requirements described above. 

When you have completed the whole form, click on ‘Submit’ to submit your application. After submitting your application you will receive an automatic email confirmation. 

Approximately two (2) weeks after the deadline of 8 February 2026 we will send an email to everyone who has registered for option 2, informing you whether you have been selected to participate in SELECTION ROUND 1 in Amsterdam on 1 and 2 April 2026. If you have been invited to participate in SELECTION ROUND 1, please start planning your trip immediately, taking into account all audition days. The first round on 1 April starts early in the morning. Please note: 4 April is a full day – keep this in mind when planning your trip. On 5 April, a mandatory physical screening will take place if you have been accepted into our programme. 

At the Academy of Theatre and Dance, we believe it is important that the admission procedure is conducted in a socially safe manner. We therefore do not accept any expressions of discrimination, racism, sexism and violence. In addition, there is no room for nudity in the audition process.
