Admission and enrolment

The Dance in Education study programme is an arts teacher training programme where you will obtain a Bachelor of Education in Dance. To be accepted, you must at least have a senior general secondary education diploma (havodiploma) or senior secondary vocational education level 4 diploma (mbo-niveau 4 diploma). In addition, there are specific admission requirements, which are assessed by means of a selection process. The selection process consists of three selection rounds.

If you do not possess the required diploma, a so-called ‘Avo-toets’ (general education test) will be taken, which tests the general level of development. If you successfully pass this test, you may still be admitted to the selection.

Dance in Education is a Dutch-language course with Dutch and international teachers. This means that classes are sometimes taught in Dutch and other times in English. The language level of all classes is B2. We offer international students the possibility to start the study with a lower level of Dutch. The following conditions apply:

  • Your minimum level of Dutch at the start of the academic year is A2.
  • In the first year, you are required to take Dutch language classes in which we strive for a B1 speaking/listening level at the end of the year.
  • Your language level in English is B2.
  • Bilingual written study material is provided in theory classes taught by Dutch teachers, the language of instruction in these classes is often Dutch. Keep in mind that an A2 level is insufficient to properly understand the oral part of the lessons. The higher your language level is, the better you can keep up in these classes.

  • At the Academy of Theatre and Dance, we believe it is important that the audition process takes place in a socially safe manner.
