Dwayne Toemere

Dwayne Toemere is an actor and theatre maker. He graduated from the Mime Opleiding in 2011. In 2006 Dwayne received his master's degree in Psychology from the UvA with a specialization in Labor and Organizational Psychology (A&O). 

Since then, he has been working as an independent theatre maker and in collaboration with various theater companies. Besides his theatre work, Dwayne started teaching at various theatre schools from 2013 with a specialization in physical theatre and mime corporel, a technique developed by Etienne Decroux. He also works as a trainer for several companies (commercial and government) for personal development and communication training. 

Dwayne is part of the ATD Lectureship team as a researcher. His research interests are in: 

  • Indigenous artist practices and the history and culture of indigenous communities. 

  • Grief and the ways of making space for grief practices and healing. 

  • Diversity, inclusion and equality: ways of looking at and working towards decolonization within the arts and educational system. 

In addition to his work as a researcher at the ATD Lectureship, Dwayne is part of the Platform 2025 core team. There he deals with themes around diversity, inclusion and equality for the Academy of Theatre and Dance (ATD).
