On Saturday, July 5, Wasjikwa and the ATD Lectorate warmly invite you to an afternoon of fashion, performance, and Indigenous power. This special fundraising event launches the vision for the Indigenous Fashion Academy and the fashion show scheduled for 2026: a groundbreaking initiative where sustainability, craftsmanship, and Indigenous knowledge meet.

What to expect on July 5?

  • Presentation of the Indigenous Fashion Academy & 2026 Fashion Show
  • Lecture & workshop by Ryan Blanca on ‘Indigenousism’
  • Live performance by sambura group Masaraipono
  • Showcase by Tribes Movement
  • Jewelry presentation by Verida & Elisa
  • Wasjikwa merchandise for sale
  • Workshop: Embellish your Tote bag
  • Delicious catering available for purchase

Why this event?
The Indigenous Fashion Academy reimagines fashion and performance education by centering Indigenous worldviews, sustainable materials, and ancestral techniques. Building on the success of Celebrating Indigenous Knowledge in 2024, the Academy aims to create a structural platform for fashion rooted in connection, spirituality, and harmony with nature.

This event is part of a larger research project exploring how Indigenous values are performed in and through fashion. By linking fashion to performance, storytelling, and embodiment, we foreground the deep interconnections between Indigenous aesthetics and the fields of theatre and dance.

Come, learn, experience, and support a future of fashion shaped by Indigenous perspectives.
All proceeds will support curriculum development and the realization of the 2026 fashion show.
