'Funmi Adewole Elliott

'Funmi Adewole Elliott is an academic, performer and dramaturge. Funmi is a senior lecturer at De Montfort University, Leicester England and produces solo performances under the banner of FAE Studios. She started out as a media practitioner in Nigeria and moved into performance on relocating to Britain in 1994. For several years she toured with Physical theatre and African dance drama companies. As a dramaturge she has worked with choreographers and theatre makers mainly based in Europe including Alesandra Seutin, Yinka Esi Graves and Vicki Igbokwe. She is drawn to artists who combine genres or various dance or movement vocabularies, who work with social and traditional dance forms or who make work which interrogates specific discourses, personal or political issues. She has facilitated dramaturgical labs for Dance Immersion, Canada (2017) and Pan-African Creative Exchange (PACE) in 2019 and 2022 in-person in South Africa and online, and has participated in a range of dramaturgy academic panels. She has an M.A in Postcolonial Studies, a Professional Graduate Certificate in Education and a PhD in Dance Studies.
