Moaning in the Forest

This gathering centers the public expression of collective grief by moaning in togetherness. It is based on the principle that moaning is the sonic soundscape that connects us to worlds beyond the human life through our own emotional affective world(s). As a collective practice, we learn how to weave our personal sounds into a sonic fabric aroused by those gathered in togetherness. Through simple, silly and serious exercises we will attempt learning to attune ourselves to the moan. We will practice the moaning lament as way of storytelling, learning to hear the stories hidden in the trembling and groaning voices around. During this practice session nothing is too much and nothing has to be solved, instead you’re invited to bring everything that is of you and beyond into the space.

Dates, times and location:
Saturday 13th January
2-4pm

Participating artist(s):
Raoni Muzho Saleh (1991 AFG/NL) is a choreographer/performer based in Amsterdam, and a graduate of SNDO. His work is influenced by fugitivity, a revolutionary movement that shapes his artistic vision. By dancing through the gender spectrum, Raoni has developed a unique movement practice that emphasises “becoming other”, a continuous state of incompleteness. Through the use of materials such as textile, dough, voice, and text, Raoni invites a serious kind of play into space where all can become immersed in otherworldly stories. His intimate relationship with the materiality of artistic practice allows for a continuous negotiation of a queer becoming.
