“Sangre de mi sangre” (blood of my blood)
The art project “Sangre de mi sangre” (blood of my blood) by feminist collective Hilos (threads) aims to raise awareness about forced disappearance and feminicide in Mexico. It has become a way to be present with the families of the victims of these forms of violence. It seeks to repair the social fabric damaged through violence by collectively weaving in public space. This art project is also a form of protest that has been re-signified in other countries like Chile, Peru, Venezuela, and Germany to adapt it to their context and sociopolitical realities. The invitation is to come together to weave and by doing so, to create space for collective grieving. There are wounds that bind us in the web of life we are part.

I am an artist, writer, lecturer and researcher with a PhD on Development Studies. My work crosses disciplinary boundaries. Some of the topics I work on are: decolonial feminism, decoloniality, Latin American feminist art and decolonizing healing. I am interested in collective healing as a political practice that also requires we make space for grieving together. Some of our wounds are historical and related to current systems of oppression that cross us in different ways. In my understanding to heal together we need to be able to sense what we have lost, and to engage in deep listening across the colonial difference.
