THE SUNDAY SCENE #3 | WITH JENNIFER LACEY
Live performing arts podcast

Sunday 10 January , 16:00 hrs
Graduate School/ de Theaterschool
Overhoeksplein 2, Amsterdam

Hosted by: Noha Ramadan, Veem House for Performance
and the Amsterdam Master of Choreography (AMCh)

An interview with an inspiring artistic mind, a postcard from abroad, local news from the (performing arts) scene, and an update on the (political) weather … Broadcasting these frequencies: energy, vision, smarts, open hearts, playful minds. Bring it on and join us live with homemade soup or listen along whilst being abroad.

The Sunday Scene

The Sunday Scene is both a gathering and a podcast, broadcast live from Veem House for Performance every first Sunday of the month. Every episode unpacks the work and life of an invited (performance) artist through an in-depth interview with moderator Noha Ramadan. January’s special edition will relocate the Sunday Scene to Grootlab, the new building of the Graduate School, and will be co-hosted by the Amsterdam Master of Choreography.

What’s happening?

We are happy to announce visual artist Jennifer Lacey (US/FR) as the main guest of the afternoon. The interview will be the kick-off of a few days’ work session she leads with the AMCh students. Sunday Scene host Noha Ramadan – herself a student of the Master – took this chance to invite Lacey to her interview-table.  Excited by this opportunity, Veem takes the Sunday Scene's living room setting to the Grootlab and provides with this ‘pop-up radio session’ during the Graduate School’s first week in the building, a sort of unofficial studio warming.

JENNIFER LACEY is an American choreographer now based in Paris. During the 90's in New York City Lacey was a member of the Randy Warshaw Dance Company as well as a dancer with Jennifer Monson, DD Dorvillier, John Jasperse, Yvonne Meier and Ellen Fisher among others. At the same time she began developing her own work, which has been presented at international venues including PS122, the Kitchen, ImPulsTanz, The Tate Modern, the Biennale de Lyon, Tanzquatier Vienna, Centre Pompidou, and Kyoto Arts Center, often in close collaboration with visual artist Nadia Lauro. Jennifer received a Doris Duke Impact Award in 2014 and a Guggenheim fellowship in 2015.

The monthly item Postcard from abroad will carry the voice of Dries Douibi, curator of Bâtard Brussels and a dramaturg, who is in correspondence and collaboration with Veem for a long time already, and will address Amsterdam from Brussels at this start of the new year.

Hot soup will be cooked while you listen and can be enjoyed when you join us live.

We look forward to warmly welcoming you in January!
