“The great gardens of the fairies prosper. The fairies worship their plants and they grow and bear abundant food. In the afternoon, they sing and chant and weed. As the sun cools they make love with each other, surrounded by tomatoes and marigolds. At night they sleep curled around the cucumbers or intertwined in the beans or covered by the corn. When they awake in the cool mornings, they stroke the plants and give them food.”
Queer gardening has a long, radical history. Knowing that nature is inherently queer, many of our queer and trans* siblings feel deeply connected to the ecologies around them. On Thursday the 18th of April, we meet for a garden gathering: TRANS*PLANTS. In the garden above the school, among the flowers, we gather to explore the connections between queerness and horticulture with our hands in the soil.
Join us as we trans*plant baby seedlings into new soil, fill new beds and make space for the garden to prosper. We will be cute and soft and “worship the plants”. After that, we will screen a lovely documentary called “Queer Gardening” by Ella von der Haide (2022) and have some springtime snacks from the garden! After the screening, there is tea and space to hang out and talk.

Accessibility information: The event is wheelchair accessible; there is a wheelchair accessible toilet on the ground floor of the building which can be reached via lift. While there are physical activities planned, such as carrying bags of soil, there are many activities that are easier on the body, such as attaching foil to the beds, transplanting seedlings, weeding, etc. There are plenty of seating possibilities.
