Public Defense Michael O’Connor and Symposium 11 December 2023
PhD Defense of Michael O'Connor
9:45 AM – Auditorium Vrije Universiteit
Michael O'Connor, dancer and movement researcher, will present his project, 'Embodied Lines: creating withness through perceived, bodily, and imagined lines.’ O'Connor's research delves into the intricate relationship between the mind, body, and environment. His work offers a fresh perspective on how lines play a fundamental role in our experience. The body creates lines through movement, the mind conceives of lines in the form of timelines, conceptual boundaries, or imagined movement, and the body also perceives lines in our surroundings, shaping our understanding of the world. Lines are not only the subject of the research but also the method and data. O'Connor introduces the term "Embodied Lines" as a unique approach to this subject, carving its own path in the emerging field of Linealogy.
